Sri Lanka officially the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka (formerly known as Ceylon), is an island country in South Asia near south-east India With this country location Sri Lanka has maritime borders with India to the northwest and the Maldives to the southwest.
Our documented history spans 3,000 years and evidence of pre-historic human settlements dating back to at least 125,000 years. Because of the perfect geographic location and deep harbors[some natural harbors also ] the country was known as Ceylon During the British colonial period to until 1972.the country was fully effected and marred by 30 years civil war until Sri Lankan military defeated the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in 2009.

When the Portuguese arrived to Sri Lanka in 1505 they translate the name as Ceylon it was continued until 1972.with the 1948 independence from the British and In 1972, its formal name was changed to “Free, Sovereign and Independent Republic of Sri Lanka” then in 1978 it was changed to the “Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka” the history was like that with Portuguese, Dutch and British Ruling till 1948.
